The Footprints of Maitland’s Old Hands Trilogy – Book Two: The Rise of Central Maitland
Book Two traces the changing uses of Mary Hunt’s (Molly Morgan’s) one hundred- and fifty-nine-acre central Maitland grant and William O’Donnell’s adjoining second grant comprising five and a half acres (improved during the 1830s by an enterprising and industrious couple: George and Elizabeth Yeomans.) The book tracks developments on High Street frontages from Hunter Street to Elgin Street, as well as uses of land parcels along lateral streets, including Free Church Street, Charles Street, Cathedral Street, Bourke Street, Bulwer Street and the east side of Elgin Street. It includes coverage of horseshoe bend and Maitland’s first racecourse on the site of Maitland Park.
